Friday, Major League Baseball and Nike announced they had reached a ten-year agreement that will make the athletic giant the officials provider of on-field apparel and merchandise beginning in 2020.
Baltimore, Maryland based Under Armour struck a ten-year deal with Major League Baseball to be the uniform provider, but had to back out of the deal. They will remain one of MLB’s footwear providers.
Nike will replace the current jersey designer, Majestic and Fanatics will distribute Nike’s MLB apparel and products to consumers, which was a similar role Fanatics was prepared to play in the Under Armour deal.
Nike is now the provider of uninforms for the three major U.S. sports: the NFL, NBA and now MLB.
